Elon Musk to lay off more Twitter employees in coming weeks: Report

Musk said in November that Twitter faced “a massive drop in revenue” if advertisers gave up.

San Francisco:

Twitter Inc plans to lay off 50 employees of the social media site’s product division in the coming weeks, the Insider news site reported on Wednesday, citing two people familiar with the company.

The layoffs, which come six weeks after boss Elon Musk reportedly told staff there would be no further cuts, could reduce the company’s workforce to less than 2,000, the report said.

Twitter did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.

Musk took over Twitter in October and quickly made a number of product and organizational changes. The company rolled out the verified blue tick on Twitter as a paid service and also laid off around 50% of staff.

Musk said in November that Twitter faced “a massive drop in revenue” if advertisers gave up.

Twitter’s fourth-quarter revenue fell about 35% to $1.025 billion, a senior advertising executive revealed during a staff meeting, online publication News reported on Wednesday.

The staff cuts so far, which also included employees working in the content moderation division, have fueled fears of an upsurge in hate speech on the platform.
